In Elite they had these super motivating aspects of transporting goods but also people. In Choplifter 3 there was a wonderful mechanic where you had to save people in your chopper and transport them back to your base while avoiding danger. Take a reference from Elite and Choplifter 3. Personally I would love the devs to make bigger changes to the formula at this point and had this in mind. So now onwards to the third game discussion which hopefully gets made. Just felt more epic to steer that monster. Personally I missed the big sub from the first game where you could park your smaller craft in it. Ending was totally rushed and game play wise also much more boring than in the first game. Now I know that some people were happy about this change but this made everything so much more less exciting in the sequel. The world lost it’s terror entirely from the first game.
Also it was completely useless as you can also walk around with your mech.
The land section with the snowfox speeder were infuriating! Everything looked the same so you got constantly lost and the movement of that speeder was a nightmare. Speaking of going deeper: total disappointment on that front without spoiling anything. The game lost it’s simple focus from the first instalment, which was go deeper! Now half the time you do not know where to go next AKA I got lost all the fucking time. Everything is smaller but in terms of travelling also much more fragmented.
However this new world / map is also the biggest disappointment.Overall playing on land was a nice addition on paper.I believe there was no mineral scanner in the first game) Story aspect did not hurt the experience / was ok for me.
Maybe to go a bit into detail here what as so disappointing to me with Below Zero: Thus I am curious to see the results of the voting above. However as an overall experience Below Zero was far inferior to me and as I read in the OT chat, to many others too. Don’t get me wrong: I still had a lot of fun and there are aspects that are also better than in the first game. I was looking forward to Below Zero like crazy and ultimately the game sadly disappointed me. The amazing exploration of the deep and fantastic abilities to build bases and subs created such a great loop. I cannot remember the last time I was so invested in a game. For me the first Subnautica claims the title of my personal game of the generation.
